Executive Summary
This report examines the recurring violence against the Hindu minority in Bangladesh, which intensifies particularly during electoral periods and major Hindu religious festivals. Patterns of mass attacks, destruction of temples, targeted killings, and forced displacements have been documented, showing a sustained and deliberate attempt to intimidate and marginalize the community.
Despite the frequency and severity of these attacks, international institutions and global media largely exhibit selective outrage. A visible disparity exists between the global response to the persecution of Hindus and that of Abrahamic religious minorities, revealing a troubling inconsistency in the application of human rights principles.
The unchecked rise of Islamic radicalisation in Bangladesh has further aggravated the situation. Extremist organizations, some of which have been banned in the United Kingdom and other parts of the world for advocating the establishment of a Caliphate, continue to expand their influence, weakening Bangladesh’s secular framework and threatening regional stability. Drawing parallels with Afghanistan's descent into a Sharia-based theocracy, the report warns that similar trajectories of radicalisation and state collapse could occur if current trends are ignored. The situation in Bangladesh presents early warning signs that demand urgent international attention.
The report concludes that continued global neglect of the persecution of Bangladeshi Hindus not only undermines the credibility of international human rights advocacy but also emboldens extremist ideologies. It calls for impartial, consistent, and firm international engagement to protect minority communities and defend the ideals of justice, secularism, and human dignity.
